Is your job or career fulfilling to you? Or is it merely a paycheck and a place you don’t mind being 40-60 hours a week?
If your job is just a paycheck then a side hustle is a great idea. Even if you do like your job a side hustle is still a great idea.
Think of side hustles as additional income streams that are separate from your paycheck. When I was working full-time I started this blog to pursue my passion of finances and try to help others. Blogging was the way I felt I could best share my content.
Side hustles help you build confidence, create financial security, and is something YOU create! I always recommend choosing a side hustle that you’re passionate about.
Why? Well, because you’ll work harder on something you love and it will give you an outlet to take part in your passions. This will make it feel less like work and more likely to stick with it. If you need more motivation to side hustle check out “Crush It” by Gary Vee to work outside of work.
Here are 11 ways to get start your side hustles. Most of them can help channel your passions but a few options could be short term to help pay the bills.

Become A Freelancer
I recently joined Upwork to start getting paid for blog writing and copywriting. I have submitted my profile, uploaded to my portfolio and just started sending out proposals yesterday.
As my experience continues with the site I will continue to update you with progress, recommendations, and advice.
Start A Blog
I started Super Millennial in January of 2016 and can’t believe how much it’s impacted my life. I wish I would have started it five years sooner, but still better late than never!
There are some bloggers who make $5,000 – $100,0000 per month from their blogs and help tons of people.
Blogging isn’t one of those overnight side hustles. Great bloggers consistently engage with other bloggers, create awesome content, set up advertising and affiliates to earn money.
If you want to start a blog I am here to help! I just finished my first course, “How to Start A Blog & Become a Great Blogger.”
The course is 100% FREE and is available now.

Publish A Book
Ten years ago I never would have believed that I could be an author because I assumed it cost thousands of dollars to get a book published. But with services like Amazon Kindle Publishing and Createspace, I was able to create a book for under $400 dollars.
This included all the editing, converting into an ebook for Kindle and creating hard copies. For the cover art, I used Fiverr and setup a landing page on my website.
That is all it takes! Of course, you need to spend the time creating content, but if you write about something you are passionate about it will be easier than you think.
My #1 recommendation if you want to publish a book is to create a timeline and post it on your desk or writing area. I began writing my first book in 2015 but didn’t publish it until 2017.
Humans need deadlines to create urgency and accomplish their goals!
Sell on Amazon (Amazon FBA)
Do you know a private label product is? If you have shopped on Amazon there is a strong chance you have purchased a private label product in the past. Instead of a recognizable brand, someone buys products from China, adds their logo and ships to an Amazon warehouse.
Amazon then ships the products to consumers (including Prime) and handles returns and customer service. There are some higher upfront costs to this side hustle but some people make hundreds of thousands of dollars every month by doing using “Fulfillment by Amazon” or FBA.
There are so many people that I’ve read about selling on Amazon FBA. To be fully transparent there is some risk involved as you are dealing with overseas purchasing and shipping. But, if done correctly can make a ton of money.
Read these three stories below if you need some more reason to try to sell products on Amazon:
Do you love animals (who doesn’t)? If so, Rover is a great place to make some extra money and work with animals. You can get paid to be a dog sitter for overnight stays or sign up to just walk dogs when you are available.
Airbnb or VRBO
Tons of people are opting to services like Airbnb or VRBO instead of traditional hotels or vacation rentals. By renting out your place you can make some serious money!
In the future, I would love to have several condos and rent them out solely as you can cover your mortgage easily.
Who hasn’t used to Craigslist to sell old furniture, TV’s, or home decor? Craiglist is a super easy way to earn extra cash and unclutter your house. Try to sell old items every few months.
If you don’t feel like using Craigslist and are ok shipping your items make sure to use eBay. I’ve been using eBay since I was 15 years old and think it’s a great side hustle for anyone to try!
Etsy is a great way to sell even more stuff online, especially stuff you love to create. By setting up an Etsy shop you will able to sell much more than on Craigslist or eBay. Tons of people use the platform to make a full-time income!
I recently started playing around with Shopify to create products for this website for our dog’s Instagram (Yes, we’re that cool). It makes it super easy to setup an online shop, create products and start selling.
Drive Uber or Lyft
This side hustle will make you get out of the house but you can make some good money driving for Uber or Lyft. The payment is weekly and you are able to work only when you want. The revenue share is 80% to you, 20% to Uber or Lyft.
If you do drive try to find times where there might be a surcharge to ensure you make additional money.
Do you like putting together furniture from Ikea? Well, I’m not sure anyone “likes it” but some people are much better than others. It’s not just furniture installation there are tons of “tasks” available:
- Mounting TV’s
- Grocery Shopping
- Help Moving
- Furniture Assembly
- Virtual tasks such as calendar organizing, event planning or setting appointments.
If you’d like to try Task Rabbit here is a free $20 using my link to get started. I’m also going to try random “tasks” as a side hustle. Currently, I am in the review process (background check) and will be starting soon.
Create a Course
I recently created my first course, “How To Start A Blog & Become a Great Blogger“, using Teachable. Although my course is a free one I will be rolling out two additional options to include more detailed approaches to being a successful blogger.
If you have anything you feel like you can teach people a course is a great idea. Here are some courses I’ve bought and gotten a ton of value from:
- Making Sense of Cents Affiliate Marketing School
- Pinterest Presence
- Becoming a 6 Figure Freelancer on Upwork

Start a podcast for your passion. This includes sports, superheroes, movie news, finances, cooking, fitness or realistically any topic you are interested in. All you need is a microphone and laptop and to get started.
Here are a few great podcasts that will inspire you to get started:
These are a just a few ideas that are popular to start a side hustle but the list is endless. Make sure to follow your passion(s) and you will be able to find a few ideas to get started. Put in the work now, the time will pass anyways!
Remember, the average millionaire has seven streams of income. How many do you have?
There are 24 hours in the day, eight to ten are at work, another six to eight sleeping. That means you have six to eight hours each day of additional time that you have to work on a side project.
You have to make the time, but if you are passionate you will be more likely to stick with it. Hopefully, you will be able to make more money to help you reach your financial goals.
