Tony Robbins. A lot of words come to mind when people hear his name. After the Netflix documentary, I am Not Your Guru’s release many more people have been exposed to his seminars. I won’t get into content to much as it’s hard to sum up 50 hours in one article. Instead I’ll share my day to day experience.
A Great Start To The Event
I flew out from Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday, the first day of the event. After a quick flight I was in an Uber heading to the event. In the LA traffic I got talking to my Uber drive who was very jealous I was attending the event. He had a passenger last year after the event who told him how life changing the event had been. We bonded over entrepreneurship, podcasts and self development. He mentioned that sometimes he’d go into Barnes and Noble to read books as he couldn’t always afford them with three kids.
Once I was getting dropped off I realized I had to help. After reading some of Tony’s stuff previously I knew he philosophy was “the secret to living is giving.” I decided to give my driver my copy of “Unshakeable” that I had purchased a few weeks ago. I felt great about paying it forward.
Once I got to registration is was organized chaos. People everywhere, good signage and event team members high fiving everyone. I got checked in under 10 minutes as it was only 745am with the event not set to begin until 12. The best part? My registration bag included a copy of the book I just gave away. Talk about instant gratification for paying it forward? I knew it was a sign to start a great weekend.
Day 1 – “Turn Fear Into Power”
After checking into my hotel I got back to the event at 11am, one hour before the start of the event. I grabbed a seat and took in the atmosphere. It was a huge venue, the Galen Center in downtown Los Angeles. I had no idea what to expect nor did anyone else around me. We got started a little late but as soon as it did, Tony was in full force. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen. Within 10 minutes we were jumping up and down, dancing, high fiving, cheering and ready to go. All 9,000 people from 62 countries were fully engaged. Seriously, every single person was ready, even Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
The first day was incredible. We covered a ton and Tony makes it very easy to apply everything to your own individual life. By 11pm we were still going strong, the energy of the arena was contagious. Eleven hours in and we were in what Tony refers to as a “peak state.” We got a full hour demo of what to expect for the iconic fire walk. Yes, 9,000 people were going to head outside to walk over 30 lanes of hot coals. The fire walk is a metaphor for your life. If you can walk through fire you can get past any problem you’re having in your life.
It seemed pretty straight forward in the arena; don’t look down, don’t run, and brush your feet off once you finish the walk. But once we walked a few blocks to the staging area some doubt had settled in. Was I ready to walk on fire? What if I got blisters or seriously burnt? Regardless me and nearly 9,000 people all became firewalkers The experience was absolutely amazing. The first night was complete, it was nearly 1am, 13 hours total. I took an Uber to my hotel, checked in, and passed out.
I would have paid full admission for the first day alone, life changing stuff.
Day Two – Turn Dreams Into Reality
I woke up confused and excited. Did that happen yesterday? Did I walk through fire at midnight in downtown LA? Yes, yes I did.
I got to the event at 9am on day two, ready to go. Instead of Tony speaking we had his partner Joseph Mclendon III. I won’t lie, I was disappointed at first. No Tony Robbins on day two? Joseph explained that it was because of Tony doing events over three decades his vocal cords are wrecked and needed 24 hours between speaking. Much to my surprise the day turned out to be incredible. Even though we didn’t get Tony live they had pre-recorded talks, guest speakers and the same vibrant atmosphere. 9,000 people were still jumping up and down, screaming at the top of their lungs and taking in all the information delivered.
The morning sessions focused on how you can accomplish your goals, whatever they were. We also focused on mastering your finances for yourself and your business. We also had a great guest speaker, Mike Melio, who told us about his life story and the impact Tony has had on him. Listen to his full story here, it’s insane and incredibly motivating.
The end of the night focused on your peer group and the impact of the people you hang out with the most. We ended on time at 930pm, still a full 12 hours. They said it was all to prepare for Saturday, the biggest day of the event.
Day Three – Break Through To Your New Life
Saturday, I woke up refreshed and ready to go. After coffee and a quick workout I got to the event I got to the event at 930am. The energy Saturday was insane. Tony Robbins is a freak of nature, he went from 930am to 130am without missing a beat. Seriously, we had two short breaks for food, otherwise he went 16 hours with incredible energy. It felt like an hour, I wish any time went as fast as it did on transformation day.
We focused on a variety of topics today. The morning session focused on “The Pyramid of Mastery.” This was an incredible session. It forces you to break out all areas of your life
- Physical Body
- Emotions and Meaning
- Spiritual Sense & Contributions
The afternoon session is was the highlight of the event. I personally found what I was looking for from the event and I saw the same from everyone around me. I won’t get into specifics for the respect to my fellow UPW’s but it was intense. It was the moment 9,000 people paid for, the moment we conquered all our fears.
The event went another two hours until 130am. Like I said, Tony Robbins isn’t human. His energy and conviction is everything is contagious.
Day Four – The Power of Pure Energy
The last day was bittersweet walking into the arena. The past three days we all accomplished so much and was sad to say goodbyes to so many people. Since Saturday was so late we didn’t get started until 1030am so there was time for people to get checked out of their hotels and ready to conquer the last day.
The content of the final day was based 100% around your body, health, and the power of pure energy. Tony was not in attendance but there were several videos of him from different seminars. He discussed how he is able to maintain crazy amounts of energy while traveling around the world after 30 years. It was all great information, easy to apply and as a fitness nut, all stuff I would agree with.
By 7pm my first Tony Robbins seminar was complete.
Would I Recommend Tony Robbins – Unleash the Power Within?
Overall, I can say its was the most impactful weekend of my entire life. Tony Robbins and his team deserve an incredible amount of recognition for their hard work and incredibly organized seminar. The atmosphere was amazing, the audience was incredible and the results will last a lifetime. My new goal is to make such a significant impact to my life financially that I will be able to attend the other four seminars within the next 24 months.
The media has made tony and his audience out to be a cult leader and his followers. This couldn’t be further from the truth. He is a strategist, he is able to bring out the best in anyone. Although there are some intense moment his entire goal is to help you find the best version of yourself. His books, cd’s and Youtube videos are great but attending this event is life changing. Being around 8,999 other people who want the best life is incredibly inspiring.
The event will make you get out of your comfort zone and ask yourself the hard questions. Yes there is constant dancing, positive vibes & loud music. No there isn’t kool aid. Tony is the real deal, what he’s achieved is truly inspiring and his team is there to show you to make your life better. Without a doubt the best money I’ve ever spent.
Remember, the best investment you can make is always in yourself.
