If you want to live fulfilled, long life you need to find your passion. If work sucks the life out of you eventually it won’t be worth it, no matter how much you make. I was at my job for six years.
Let me explain….I was at my job for six years.
I was at my job for six years.
The office was inside a corporate building with five or six other companies.
Every day I would park in the underground garage and take the elevator to the office.
Often times I’d have interactions with fellow coworkers and people from other companies.
The people I knew were sometimes in good spirits, but other times clearly dragging themselves into work.
My old job was as cool as it gets when it comes to working for someone else. Good pay, no dress code, free benefits, food, and coffee.
Naturally, my coworkers seemed to be in a better mood than people with other companies.
The other people in the elevator were usually less than enthused when it came to making it into work. They were often times rushing, lugging purses, computer bags, and pounding caffeine.
Anything to make the day go faster….sound familiar to your commute or walking into your job?
And that’s the majority of the workforce in America.
Hyper caffeinated and dragging yourself into work.
I understand…you need to pay the bills, make the house payment, the car payment, the kid’s vacation, etc.
One day it hit, I can’t keep doing this for another 5-10 years.
I always felt I could do more with my life and break the mold for what is considered “normal.”
If this lifestyle is normal then I want to be 100% different.
Life is meant to be lived, not simply getting by and settling.
If this sounds like your daily routine keep reading…
Do You Like Your Job?
These short elevator rides are when I realized how an overwhelming majority of people are not satisfied with their job.
According to a 2013 Washington Post article, only 13 percent of people actually like going to work! 13!
That means 87% of people are simply there to “get by.”
Basically, 9 out of 10 people don’t like their job. That means each day you spend 8-9 hours dreaming of something else. Or mindlessly browsing the internet until you have to look busy when someone walks by. I get it, trust me.
It’s strange to think that a 2-3 minute elevator ride was one of the main reasons I retired from the real world. It was a short glimpse into my future if I stuck with “corporate” America.
The glimpse into the future looked boring and unfulfilling. I knew I had to change and follow my passions.
Does It Really Matter to “Love What You Do”?
Yes, it does.
You will spend more than a third of your life at work, assuming you are working 40 hours per week. Chances are that you work in the 40-60 range so even more than a third of your lifetime.
Plus you have to commute, work outside of work and have the stresses of work at home.
But what’s even worse than any of this?
As Gary Vee has said, “Regret scares the shit out of me.” Because you’re not coming back, you only get one shot at this thing called life.
But you can make changes to improve your job, quality of life and fulfillment.

How To Change It
I’m not advocating you to quit your job with no money coming in like I did, it’s not for everyone. I get that.
But I would recommend you spend some time figuring out what you love to do.
Quit settling for a job that simply pays the bills.
Check out these resources to start figuring out what you want to do with your life:
This won’t be an overnight process or an immediate switch in your life. I pondered for months (maybe years) before I finally found what I love doing. It has changed and will continue to change as I evolve.
Don’t feel that you have to do something for the rest of your life, it’s not like college where you’re forced to pick a major at 18 and stick with it.
Just start by finding something that you love to do, regardless of if it makes you money (for now) and start doing it to live your best life.
Find Your Passion to Live Your Best Life
I published a post last week that seemed to really resonate with people as it was one of my most popular posts ever.
It was titled, “7 Ways to Live Your Best Life.”
What does that mean?
To me, living your best life means you have a vision, love what you do, make money because you love it, and are able to conquer all of your goals.
- Having a vision
- Find your passion
- Loving what you do
- Making money because you are good at (and love doing it)
- Working towards goals
The only way to live your best life is to spend time doing what you love, otherwise, life can be pretty miserable if you’re consumed with hating a third of your day (and life).
One of my favorite quotes I’ve read says, “Don’t work 8 hours for a company then go home and not work on your own goals. You’re not tired, you are uninspired.”
Let me ask…are you uninspired or do you have lazy goals?
As Tony Robbins said, “People are not lazy. They simply have goals that do not inspire them.”
It’s ok if you haven’t actively set goals yet, the majority of America doesn’t set goals. But, to be truly fulfilled you will need to set goals and go after them.
I think this Youtube video from Tom Bilyeu will really help show you how to find your extra gear and get working!
If you are passionate and are willing to bust your ass you can accomplish whatever goal you want.
Yes, it’s hard… the hours will be long, and you will get frustrated.
When you become persistent and resilient you will get to your goal and feel incredibly accomplished!
Fulfillment starts with finding what you love to do.
Maybe it will be a career change, a side hustle that turns into a business, or something else.
It’s worth a shot, don’t spend 80% of your life being miserable.
Quit dreading work and make a change…anything is possible with the internet and a vision.
Don’t waste your life, live it to the fullest!
Find your passion and see how much better life can be when you are truly living it!
Are you in the 80% who doesn’t like their job or the 20% who does? Are you doing something to make a change in your life better?
